Emergency Power Supply Systems are subject to a number of codes and standards established by private industry and governmental groups. In the United States, these include:
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
- The Joint Commission
- International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
- Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
- United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Electrical Generating Systems Association (EGSA)
- National and International Building Codes
In addition to national and international standards, many states, counties, and municipalities have adopted local building codes and regulations intended to protect workers and the general public. These are known as the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and may include the fire marshal, local air board or department of the environment, or other state or municipal agency.
